Faculty Participation in Course or Total Access Programs
Faculty participation in a Course Access or Total Access model is determined by campus and course-level decisions. Once participating courses are identified, pricing and product adoptions are finalized and communicated to faculty and the institution.
- Course Access Programs: Only select courses participate.
- Total Access Programs: All courses within the program participate.
Adoptions and Academic Freedom
Under either program, faculty retain full academic freedom to select the content provider, edition, and format that best aligns with their curriculum. This ensures:
- Day-One Access: All students have the same materials—correct edition and format—on the first day of class.
- Consistent Learning Experience: Eliminates delays and levels the playing field for instruction.
- Reduced Administrative Burden: Follett provides troubleshooting and access instructions, so faculty no longer need to act as technical support for digital materials.
Communication and Review
Follett will notify faculty of the product type and format adopted for the access program. Faculty can also review adopted products and details—including notes on participating titles and formats—on their campus efollett.com site.
Access Pricing
Follett partners with leading publishers to secure the most competitive pricing for course materials included in an Access program. Inclusive Access pricing is confirmed and communicated to campus stakeholders to ensure accurate setup for student accounts.
Equitable pricing is established with the campus prior to program launch. All required course materials adopted for participating courses are included in the program, provided Follett is informed of those adoptions.
Product Access and Distribution
Follett collaborates with the campus to define a distribution strategy and provide clear instructions for accessing digital materials such as eBooks and courseware.
- Physical Materials: Available for pickup at the campus store or designated locations. Pickup times and procedures may be specified in advance. Students will receive a confirmation email when materials are ready for collection.
- Digital Materials: Most eBooks and courseware will be accessible through the campus Learning Management System (LMS). In some cases, access details may be emailed directly to students.
Faculty are encouraged to work with their publisher representatives to confirm LMS integration and understand student access workflows. Some courseware may require an access code, which will be distributed via:
- BryteWave Bookshelf
- Direct email to students
- Physical codes available for pickup at the store
Certain products may require students to access content through a publisher’s website outside the LMS. Access methods vary by product and vendor.
By following these processes, students will have timely access to all required materials for courses participating in the Follett Access Program.
Census Date / Last Date to Process Drops
The campus will establish and communicate a Census Date or Last Date to Process Drops. This date serves as the deadline for students to drop courses or opt out of the Access Program to receive a full refund of course material charges.
- Opt-Out Deadline: If an opt-out option is available, students must complete the opt-out process before the Census Date.
- Responsibility After Opt-Out: Students who opt out of the Course or Total Access Program are responsible for obtaining their own course materials.
Program communications will include an email with links and instructions for using the Opt-Out Customer Portal. The campus will also provide guidance on how students can request to opt out.
Physical materials must be returned to the campus store for the opt-out process to be finalized and confirmed.
Institution Invoicing
After the Census Date, Follett will issue an invoice to the institution for all students who remain enrolled and active in the Follett Access Program. Students who have opted out or dropped courses will be excluded from billing based on the program model.
Follett will work with the campus to reconcile any discrepancies and ensure accurate invoicing.
